Gujarat Titans have made a change in their lineup for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Star pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been recovering from a right heel injury since the ODI World Cup final last year, has been replaced by Sandeep Warrier. Shami, the leading wicket-taker for GT, underwent surgery and is currently in the recovery phase. Sandeep Warrier, a right-arm pacer from Tamil Nadu, will join GT for his base price of INR 50 Lac. Warrier had a successful Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign, taking 11 wickets in 5 matches.
GT, the reigning champions of IPL 2022, will also be without former captain Hardik Pandya, who has moved to Mumbai Indians. Shubman Gill has been named as the new captain for GT in this season. The team will kick off their campaign against Mumbai Indians on May 24.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have faced setbacks with injuries to Jason Behrendorff and Dilshan Madushanka. Madushanka has been replaced by South Africa’s Kwena Maphaka, who impressed at the U19 World Cup and was named Player of the Tournament. Suryakumar Yadav, the world’s top T20I batter, is also uncertain for the tournament opener against GT as he awaits clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after a fitness assessment.
