Australia vs India Test Series Gets Major Upgrade as CA Chooses Perth for Border-Gavaskar Opener

The much-anticipated India’s tour of Australia 2024-25 will kick off on November 22 with the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth Stadium. Cricket Australia recently revealed this schedule, marking India’s debut in Perth for the tour Down Under. In previous instances, the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy had taken place at Adelaide Oval. This time, Adelaide will host the second Test in a Day-Night format from December 6 to 10, followed by the third Test at Gabba in Brisbane starting on December 14.

The iconic Boxing Day Test and the New Year’s Test will remain unchanged, continuing the tradition at the MCG in Melbourne and SCG in Sydney, respectively. The gap between the first two Tests has been extended due to the BCCI’s intention to organize a practice match with the pink ball to familiarize the players before the Day-Night Test at Adelaide. India faced a humbling defeat in their last pink ball Test in Adelaide, recording their lowest-ever score of 36 in the second innings.

Perth was chosen as the venue for the first Test of the series due to Australia’s exceptional track record at the Perth Stadium, boasting a perfect win ratio in all four matches played there. Despite not hosting a Test during India’s previous triumphant tour, Perth holds significance as a venue where Australia’s dominance is well-established. CA’s scheduling head, Peter Roach, emphasized the team’s comfort and advantage at Perth and Brisbane, known for their challenging pitches that often unsettle visiting sides.

As preparations intensify for the upcoming series, anticipation grows for a packed house at Perth where cricket enthusiasts expect a thrilling showdown between the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team and their formidable Australian counterparts. With star players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant in tow, the series is poised to deliver high-octane action and memorable moments that fans eagerly await.
