Rishabh Pant vents frustration by breaking part of sight screen after dismissal by Yuzvendra Chahal in IPL 2024

Rishabh Pant’s comeback to cricket after a prolonged hiatus has been a bit of a struggle. The Delhi Capitals, along with Pant’s performance with the bat, have not quite hit their stride in the initial two matches of IPL 2024. This has sparked speculations about DC’s prospects of securing a spot in the playoffs this season. Pant’s frustration was palpable during the RR vs DC IPL 2024 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Despite a valiant effort, Pant’s knock of 28 off 26 balls ended in disappointment when he was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal.

Taking the crease at No.4 post the fall of Ricky Bhui’s wicket, Pant began with a powerful square cut but struggled to maintain momentum against Chahal. A crucial moment arose when Pant, needing to accelerate with 81 runs required off 7 overs, fell victim to Chahal’s cunning delivery. The mistimed shot led to his dismissal, visibly frustrating Pant, as he vented his emotions by smashing his bat against the sight screen before heading back to the pavilion.

Despite an effort to chase down the target of 186, DC fell short at 173 for 5 in 20 overs. The highlight for RR was Riyan Parag’s outstanding unbeaten innings, guiding his team to victory with a brilliant display of seven fours and six sixes. In the end, Avesh Khan’s tight bowling spell helped RR secure their second consecutive win. Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal contributed with two wickets each to seal the victory for RR.

Reflecting on the match, Pant expressed his disappointment but emphasized the need to learn from the experience. He acknowledged the bowlers’ efforts but highlighted the importance of improved batting performance in the upcoming games. Pant credited Warner and Marsh for laying a solid foundation, emphasizing the necessity of building partnerships and finishing strong in future encounters.
