Porsche V8 Engine to Remain in Production Beyond 2030 with Noise Reduction Plans

Car manufacturers worldwide are shifting towards downsizing engines to meet stringent emission standards; however, Porsche is bucking the trend by planning to retain its V8 engine post-2030. Tomas Freimuth, the head of Porsche Panamera model line, shared with Car Sales that Porsche has enhanced the V8 engine to comply with the latest emission norms, ensuring it remains viable for the next decade. Although the upgraded engine was initially set for 2025, its debut has been postponed to 2030.

Despite the challenging emission regulations, Porsche has modified the V8 engine to be Euro 7 compliant, eliminating the need for a hybrid system to sustain the engine. The automaker is adapting the engine to meet various regulations, notably focusing on reducing noise levels to adhere to stricter noise regulations while maintaining the signature powerful sound. Porsche’s V8 engines are expected to continue delivering high performance while meeting regulatory requirements.

While Porsche commits to continuing the use of V8 engines beyond 2030, the production of cars equipped with the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine is projected to decline by the decade’s end. The brand is pivoting towards electric vehicles (EVs), targeting EVs to constitute over 80% of its annual sales by 2030. Porsche initiated its EV venture with the Taycan in 2019 and recently launched the second-generation Macan EV. Upcoming in 2025 are the 718 Boxster and Cayman EVs, showcasing the brand’s dedication to electrification and sustainability in the automotive industry.
