Nissan Motor, the Japanese auto giant, is set to introduce at least three new models in India over the next three years. The company aims to enhance its presence and boost sales in the Indian market. Currently, Nissan offers the Magnite sub-compact SUV in India, which is also exported to numerous countries worldwide. With plans to make India its export hub, Nissan intends to expand its product lineup in the country, including new SUVs and an electric vehicle.
As part of its global strategy, Nissan is gearing up to launch a total of 30 new vehicles, with 16 of them being electric, across various markets. The company unveiled ‘The Arc,’ its new business plan for global markets, outlining its vision for the Indian market. With a target of introducing three new models and reaching export levels of 100,000 units, Nissan aims to capitalize on its partnership with Renault and Mitsubishi Motors in key regions, including India.
In 2022, Nissan previewed three new models in India, including the X-Trail SUV, which was previously part of Nissan’s lineup in the country a decade ago. Alongside the X-Trail, Nissan also showcased the Qashqai and Juke SUVs, all of which are being considered for the Indian market. However, there have been no updates on the launch timeline for these models since the showcase event.
Nissan is expected to reintroduce two models in India that were previously discontinued. In addition to the X-Trail, the Kicks SUV is likely to make a comeback, following its recent debut in a new version. The Kicks, first launched in India in 2019, is anticipated to compete with popular compact SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara upon its return.
Currently, Nissan’s primary offering in India is the Magnite SUV, which has achieved significant sales milestones since its introduction in 2020, surpassing one lakh units sold in February this year. With plans to launch a facelift version of the Magnite, Nissan aims to strengthen its position in a competitive market segment, facing off against rivals like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Tata Nexon. The Magnite has played a crucial role in sustaining Nissan’s business in India by catering to both domestic and export demands.
