Skoda Auto India is set to reintroduce the previous generation Superb in the Indian market. Reports suggest that the Skoda Superb will mark its return on April 3, 2024. This flagship sedan was discontinued last year due to the BS6 Phase 2 emission norms. However, it will now be re-launched as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in limited quantities, taking advantage of the government’s GSR 870 rule permitting the import of up to 2,500 units annually without homologation.
The Skoda Superb is anticipated to be available in a single top-spec Laurin & Klement variant, coming loaded with features such as lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and park assist as standard. It will be powered by the familiar 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine, tweaked to comply with BS6 Phase 2 standards. This four-cylinder engine generates 187 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission that directs power to the front wheels.
While the Superb was previously competitively priced between ₹34 lakh and ₹37.29 lakh when locally assembled, being fully imported now will lead to a higher price tag of around ₹43 lakh ex-showroom. Despite this increase, it is expected to be more affordable than its direct competitor, the Toyota Camry priced at ₹46.17 lakh.
Notably, the next-generation Skoda Superb made its global debut in November last year, but the arrival in the Indian market is anticipated to be around next year. Skoda is also gearing up to reintroduce the Octavia with the latest iteration, following a similar route as a fully imported model. Moreover, Skoda Auto India has plans for the Enyaq electric SUV and a locally manufactured subcompact SUV scheduled for its global unveiling in March 2025.
