The Toyota Hilux, a globally renowned pickup truck, is all set to undergo a transformation into an all-electric version by the end of 2025. Toyota has confirmed its development, with plans for mass production expected to commence by the end of next year. Specific details such as production location, range, power, and battery specifications are yet to be disclosed. The electric variant will draw inspiration from the Toyota Hilux Revo BEV Concept unveiled in 2022, currently undergoing road testing. Toyota Thailand’s President, Noriaki Yamashita, hinted at a potential 2025 release during the Bangkok International Motor Show.
Coinciding with Isuzu’s announcement of an all-electric D-Max pickup truck planned for 2025, Toyota’s move to introduce the Hilux EV holds significant industry interest. While Toyota considers launching the electric Hilux in key markets like Thailand, Australia, and Europe, there’s no current indication of an India release. However, with a strong presence of the ICE version in the Indian market and the increasing focus on lifestyle vehicles and electric mobility, the introduction of the Hilux EV could be a possibility in the future given favorable market conditions.
In India, where the Toyota Hilux boasts increasing popularity despite humble sales figures, the pickup made a notable impact by outselling the Maruti Suzuki Jimny in January this year with 289 units compared to the SUV’s 163 units. The Hilux, known for its offroading capabilities tailored for lifestyle enthusiasts, presents a promising future in the evolving Indian automotive landscape.
