Netflix’s ‘3 Body Problem’ Series Starring Benedict Wong: A Intriguing Project for the Actor

Benedict Wong, the British actor known for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and movies like “The Martian” and “Sunshine”, has joined the cast of the Netflix series “3 Body Problem”. Wong expressed his interest in the show’s world due to the popularity of the Chinese author Liu Cixin’s novels, which have garnered a fan following including prominent figures like Barack Obama and Mark Zuckerberg. The series, consisting of eight episodes and created by “Game of Thrones” duo David Benioff and DB Weiss alongside Alexander Woo, follows a storyline that involves contacting an alien civilization in 1960s China and later addressing humanity’s impending threat.

In the show, Wong portrays the character Da Shi, a London-based detective investigating the mysterious deaths of top scientists globally. His on-screen camaraderie with co-star Liam Cunningham, who plays the role of Thomas Wade, Da Shi’s boss and leader of an elite intelligence agency tasked with planetary defense, adds a lighter touch amidst the darker themes of existential threats and moral dilemmas explored in the series. Wong expressed his admiration for Cunningham and shared that their chemistry on set allowed for engaging scenes with room for improvisation.

Wong revealed that he was drawn to the challenging aspect of adapting the intricate and science-heavy source material into a visual format, and he embraced the opportunity to be part of a project with such esteemed creators. As one of the leads in “3 Body Problem”, Wong praised the collaborative environment on set and appreciated the chance to work alongside talented co-stars like Eiza Gonzalez, Jonathan Pryce, and John Bradley. The series, which delves into themes of cosmic mysteries and human resilience, promises an engaging and thought-provoking viewing experience for audiences worldwide.
