Zendaya has been stepping into a more authoritative role following the success of her recent film, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi masterpiece Dune: Part Two. Reports from Variety indicate that she has been providing creative input to director Sam Levinson for her character’s development in the upcoming Season 3 of Euphoria.
According to reports, Zendaya expressed some reservations about the initial scripts for Euphoria Season 3. She proposed an intriguing character arc for Rue, suggesting that the now-sober young adult should become a pregnancy surrogate. However, this idea was ultimately rejected by the show’s creators as it was deemed inconsistent with the overall tone of the series.
Denis Villeneuve, during a recent conversation, praised Zendaya’s keen eye for direction, noting her attentive observation on the sets of Dune: Part Two. He mentioned, “There’s someone that spent a lot of time behind the camera listening – Zendaya. She’s very clever. I would not be surprised if one day we learn she wants to go behind (the camera).”
Moving forward, the revised script for Euphoria Season 3 is anticipated to be finalized by October, with filming expected to commence in 2025. HBO had previously announced a delay in the series’ release from its original schedule. The upcoming season will feature a five-year time jump from the events of the second season, showcasing a narrative evolution for characters portrayed by Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and others.
Euphoria, set in the fictitious town of East Highland, California, delves into themes of hope, love, loss, and addiction among its ensemble cast. The show, originally based on an Israeli series of the same name by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin, has garnered critical acclaim and accolades, including multiple Emmy wins for Zendaya’s portrayal of Rue.
