The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been granted an extension of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s remand until April 1 by the Rouse Avenue Court. Kejriwal, who has been in custody, will continue to be detained until Monday when he is scheduled to appear before the court bench for further proceedings related to a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy. This investigation by the ED has been ongoing for the past two years, and Kejriwal is the fourth Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader to be apprehended in connection with this case.
ED emphasized the necessity to confront Kejriwal with some of the accused individuals involved in the excise policy case while advocating for the extension of his remand. The agency disclosed that data from one of the mobile phones owned by Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita, has been extracted and is currently under analysis. However, data from the other four digital devices seized during the search at Kejriwal’s premises on March 21 is yet to be extracted, as the detainee has requested time to provide the necessary password/login credentials after consulting with his legal counsel.
In a recent remand plea, the ED mentioned that during Kejriwal’s custodial interrogation, his statements were documented over five days, with the response being characterized as “evasive.” Additionally, the statements of three other individuals were recorded during this period of remand.
