The Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha candidate from Krishnanagar in West Bengal’s Nadia district wrote to the Election Commission of India (ECI) expressing concerns about consecutive raids conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at four of her properties. She claimed that the raids were an attempt to disrupt her campaign and tarnish her image. The CBI conducted searches at her home in Kolkata and offices and residences in Nadia regarding allegations of accepting bribes to ask questions in Parliament, leading to her expulsion from the Lok Sabha in December. The candidate emphasized that the raids did not uncover any incriminating evidence and suggested that they were politically motivated to favor the ruling party. She urged the ECI to ensure a fair electoral process for all parties involved. The TMC candidate highlighted the need for independent agencies to operate impartially without succumbing to political pressures. In response, a spokesperson from the Bengal BJP dismissed the allegations and stated that there are no restrictions on conducting raids during elections. The candidate’s expulsion from the Lok Sabha stemmed from accusations of accepting bribes and breaching security protocols, which were vehemently denied by her party leader.
