Savitri Jindal, ex-Haryana minister, switches party from Congress to BJP

Savitri Jindal, a former Haryana minister, made headlines by switching allegiance from Congress to the BJP shortly after her son, industrialist Naveen Jindal, made a similar move. The 84-year-old officially joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Hisar, with key figures like Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and former CM Manohar Lal Khattar in attendance at the event.

In a social media post, Savitri Jindal explained her decision to leave the Congress, citing her decade-long tenure as an MLA representing Hisar and her dedication to serving Haryana selflessly. Being recognized as the wealthiest woman in India by Forbes this year, with a staggering net worth of $29.1 billion (₹2.42 lakh crore), she holds significant influence in the region.

Having previously served as a minister under the Congress government led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Haryana, Savitri Jindal faced defeat at the hands of BJP’s Dr Kamal Gupta in the 2014 elections. Interestingly, Gupta now holds a ministerial position in the current Nayab Singh Saini government.

Meanwhile, Naveen Jindal, a former Congress MP representing the Kurukshetra constituency, also decided to join the BJP, expressing his desire to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India. He has been nominated as the BJP candidate from Kurukshetra as the state gears up for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 25.
