RR vs LSG IPL 2024 Match Abandoned Due to Spidercam Malfunction after Two Balls

During the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, a unique incident occurred, halting play for nearly seven minutes only two balls into the game. The match faced an unexpected pause due to a spidercam error, where the cable wire fell onto the outfield at the beginning of the match.

The mishap took place in the opening over as Mohsin Khan started the attack for LSG, giving away a single to Rajasthan opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second ball, leading to a sudden halt in play. The wire of the spidercam had snapped and fallen onto the field, prompting engineers to swiftly enter the ground, remove the wire, and resume play. Rohan Gavaskar, a former cricketer in the commentary box, noted the incident, stating, “Spidercam has snapped and come down.”

After a seven-minute delay, the game recommenced with Naveen-ul-Haq dismissing the formidable Jos Buttler in the second over. In the game, Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bat first against LSG, expressing confidence in the batting conditions. Lucknow, on the other hand, revealed Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, and Naveen as their overseas players for the match, with KL Rahul emphasizing the team’s focus on the game.

Both teams were optimistic about their line-ups, with Samson mentioning the positive atmosphere in the dressing room, and Rahul highlighting the significance of the match, aiming to maintain their focus on the game amidst individual aspirations.
